LARYNX




** Larynx …… [lower respiratory tract]


 The larynx[short air tube]extends about 5cm, from the third to sixth cervical vertebra * Superiorly it attaches to Hyoid bone; and there, open to  laryngopharynx, and inferiorly it continuous with the trachea.

the larynx  has some functions, Its main tasks are “to provide a Patent [opening or air way],  & second “act as switching mechanism” {epiglottis}…

As the third, Is a Voice production. 

The laryngeal ligaments are classified as either “extrinsic ligaments or intrinsic ligaments”.. Extrinsic ligaments attach to the external surface of laryngeal cartilages & extend to Hyoid bone & trachea.

As the intrinsic ligaments are located within the larynx & include “vocal ligaments & vestibular ligaments”

**Vocal ligaments are elastic connective tissue that extend between thyroid cartilage & arytenoid cartilage, & covered with a mucous membranes, to form “vocal folds”  i.e. true vocal cords..

The larynx is formed by nine cartilages connected with membranes and ligaments, “Except epiglottis” all other laryngeal cartilages are Hyaline
